Food Porn- Santouka Ramen

27 Jul

By now, you should know that I love ramen, so before I left Taiwan, I made sure that we visited Santouka Ramen, 山頭火, a new yet popular joint from Hokaiddo, Japan.

Knowing this is an extremely popular place as every time we pass it there is always a tremendous line outside, we made sure to arrive when the store opens at 11am. However, little did we know, when we arrived at 11 sharp, there is already a long line ahead of us.

But that didn’t stop us, we were determined to eat at this place, darn it.

So after a 30 minute wait, we finally got in! hooray.

Santouka House Special- Noodles and meat are separated when served. There is pork cheek, pork belly, bamboo, fish cake, and wood ear.

Did I mention how delicious the pork belly and pork cheek are? They literally melt in your mouth with so much flavor. Salty but not too salty, creamy without feeling guilty to my wastline. Well, I did feel guilty, after devouring this whole thing.

Miso ramen. Thick broth with a slight hint of miso. Delicious as well.

Spicy ramen. Looks spicy but not spicy at all. This was a little bit of a disappointment for my dad, an extremely lover for spicy food.

So was this place worth the 30 minute early bird wait? YES! The ramen noodles are cooked to perfection and the broth were so thick without feeling heavy. It was absolutely delicious! The best part is that I didn’t even feel thirsty after the meal, as I usually do after eating ramen in most places (ahem, MSG).

Anyway, hope you enjoy this edition of Food Porn. I hope this made you drool, as the purpose of Food Porn. If you have any suggestions in your area in regards to good ramen, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
